Utilizing design to employ dead objects from nature I create circular compositions that have both 2-D and 3-D elements. I was inspired by contemporary mandalas and visual synectics: objects of meticulous care and visual tricks. I put the same meticulous care into shooting and editing these circular works. Through this work I give new life to objects such as bones, skulls, fur, leaves, branches, twigs, flowers and more. All of these objects would be discarded and decompose in nature; I collect them and bring them into my work as a way of immortalizing them.

Each image was printed on Digital Art Studio Seminars (DASS) transfer film and transferred onto circular slices of trees. Like the objects within the images, these slices, would decompose in nature but by using them as a base for my images they become a unique entity, no longer meant to decompose but to glorify a rebirth of nature within my art.

I intend for the viewer to understand these first as 2-D images framed by the bark of the tree slice but as they move around they will see that each image is a unique, 3-D object. Within this they will see that these 2-D images create depth within themselves using shadows, different perspectives, and mirrored images, thus pushing sections of the composition visually inwards and outwards.

All pieces are approximately 11"x11" DASS Transfer Film on Walnut tree slices.
